Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day) – 18^th July

Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day) is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday. The Nelson Mandela Foundation is dedicating this year's Mandela Day to Action Against Poverty, honouring Nelson Mandela's leadership and devotion to fighting poverty and promoting social justice for all.

Noble peace prize 1993 – The Nobel Peace Prize 1993 was awarded jointly to Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk "for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa".

The Mandela Day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009.

The first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010. 

Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa.
