SOME IMPORTANT DAYS 


  • All about National Youth Day- 12 January

The National Youth Day has been celebrated every year on 12 January. This is the day when Swami Vivekananda,one of the greatest social reformers, thinkers, and philosophers of India, was born. The Indian government had declared back in 1984 that Swamiji’s birthday would be celebrated as the National Youth Day.


The main aim behind this is to make sure that the students across the country can be encouraged to learn about the life, the ideas and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and apply them in their lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Youth Festival in Greater Noida through Video conferencing. The five-day event will provide a platform to bring the youth of the country together and opportunity to showcase their talents in various activities. The Theme of the Festival is 'Sankalp Se Siddhi'. Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma will be the guest of honour on the occasion.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday is being celebrated as Good Governance Day across the country on 25th December.


Good Governance Day was established in 2014 to honour Mr Vajpayee by fostering awareness among the people of accountability in government. In keeping with this principle, the Good Governance Day has been declared to be a working day for the government.

  • Nation Celebrates Kisan Diwas- 23rd December

Kisan Diwas (Farmer's Day) is observed every year on 23 December to celebrate the birth anniversary of the fifth prime minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. He was the PM of India for a very short tenure starting from 28th of July 1979 until 14th January 1980.  A kisan leader, Late Chaudhary Charan Singh belonged to a peasant family. This was the reason he could relate himself with the issues of the farmers and therefore, he did the best to support them.

When he became the Prime Minister of India in July 1979 he made many changes to improve the lives of the farmers. This is also an interesting fact that as the Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh never visited the Lok Sabha. He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister during the reign of Morarji Desai. He introduced Budget 1979 which was designed to accomplish the needs of the farmers in all respects. It had several policies in favor of Indian farmers.

The Zamindari Abolition Act was also introduced and enforced by him. He was an avid writer too and wrote down his thoughts on farmers and problems related to them along with the solutions. Chaudhary Charan Singh died on 29 May 1987. National Farmer’s Day is celebrated every year in all states and especially in those states which are actively engaged in farming and cultivation such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and others.

  • National Mathematics Day- 22nd December

The famed Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birth anniversary on December 22 is celebrated as National Mathematics Day. It was in 2012 that then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared  December 22 as National Mathematics Day.

In 1917, Ramanujan was elected to be a member of the London Mathematical Society. In 1918 he also became a Fellow of the Royal Society, becoming the youngest person to achieve the feat. He passed away on April 6, 1920.


  • International Migrants Day- 18 December

The International Migrants Day is organized across the world on 18th December. The theme for IMD 2017 is 'Safe Migration in a World on the Move.' On 4 December 2000, the General Assembly proclaimed 18 December as International Migrants Day.
On that day, in 1990, the Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

  • Nation Celebrates Vijay Diwas- 16 December


Vijay Diwas is celebrated across the Nation on 16th December. The day marks the glorious victory over Pakistan in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, in alliance with Bangladesh Mukti Bahini. On 16th December in 1971,the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops, surrendered to the allied forces consists of Indian Army.

The anniversary of Vijay Divas is observed across India by paying tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.
